As part of the Campus Tour Day the schoolhouse bell will ring, inviting visitors inside to learn what it was like to attend this one-room school during the 19th century. A craft activity will be available for children.
View authentic school artifacts, leaf through textbooks of the time period, use a slate pencil to write on a slate, and pose for a picture wearing a dunce cap. Volunteer schoolmarms or schoolmasters will tell about teaching methods, rules for children as well as teachers, and explain why the school was nicknamed “The Hot Potato School”. Cost is a $5 donation per family. Advance registration through the website is also suggested because of limited space in the schoolhouse.
