Celebrate a Patriotic Afternoon at the Historic Pullen's Corner Schoolhouse on Sunday, June 8th

A celebration of Flag Day will be held at Lincoln's Pullen's Corner Schoolhouse at Chase Farm Park on Sunday, June 8th starting at 1:00 pm.  The one-day event includes a curated exhibit of unique historic flags displayed at the historic one-room schoolhouse, both inside and out.  Historian Kirk Hindman will explain the history of each of the flags from his collection that includes regimental, American, and state flag examples.

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress determined the composition of the nation’s banner: “Resolved, That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field, representing a new constellation.”

Also featured at the event will be a flag retirement demonstration given by members of the American Legion, Cumberland Post #14.  They will demonstrate the respectful and proper way to retire damaged or worn flags.  Guests are invited to bring along flags in need of disposal.

All ages are invited to participate in this event, which is open from 1:00-3:00 pm, with closing at 4:00 pm.  There will be activities for kids and adults alike.  Suggested donation of $5 will help to support the activities to bring history to life at this historic site.
